Witnessing to Vanessa

My life is based on a true story…

My day was going absolutely normal at work when the Holy Spirit nudged me about taking a walk around the parking lot of the business. It was two in the afternoon and I was busy. God either wanted to talk or something was up… and it wasn’t my place to tell Him “No.”

I had tried to take that walk every day… just to get my body doing something besides sitting at my desk. I needed the exercise. Today I hadn’t had time… but it wasn’t my idea either… so I got up quickly and walked down the hall and out the front door. I took my time and made a trip around the parking lot. The goal for me was movement, not speed. After I finished my round… the unction came to go around again. It seemed a little strange… but the unction was there. Half way around the second time, three girls and one guy… all probably somewhere in their late teens or early twenties came through the business parking lot walking toward me.

On the inside I said, “God” and just listened. Yes, He wanted to witness out in the business parking lot to perfect strangers. That was His goal, not mine. Fear came and I spoke under my breath… “I bind you spirit of fear in Jesus name.”

When they were about fifteen feet from me I stopped and said, “I’ve got a question for yall.” Only one young lady responded in any way… the other three were silent.

“If you were to fall down graveyard dead right now, do you know whether you would go to heaven or not.”

Only the young lady who first responded answered again.

“No… no, I don’t think I would go to heaven. No, I would definitely go to hell.” The others didn’t seem to be too interested so I concentrated my thoughts on the one young lady.

“What’s your name,” I asked her.

“Vanessa,” she answered.

“Vanessa… would you be willing to say a one minute prayer with me and tonight when you go to sleep you will know for the rest of your life that you will go to heaven when you die?”

She agreed quickly so I reached out my hands and they all four joined hands together with me and said a salvation prayer. When the prayer was over, three of them turned and walked away… they heard all they wanted to hear. Vanessa stepped up and wrapped her arms around my neck and began to sob. I just hugged her and told her several times, “You did the right thing honey… you did the right thing.”

Surely a minute passed before she let go. I encouraged Vanessa to read her Bible and invited her to come to our church. About three weeks later she gave me another hug in church and came for at least eight months. It was the most wonderful feeling in the world to know that God had interrupted me at my desk to save a soul. He knew where she was as she was walking down the street. Can’t you hear the angels rejoicing? The Holy Spirit is the winner of souls… but He needs us to step in front of them. He needs a willing vessel. And He knows where you are too.

Acts 8:29-31 The Spirit told37 Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.” Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked. “How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
