A medical dictionary defines resuscitation as “Restoration of consciousness or life functions after apparent death. “ It is amazing to see where the church has fallen from in the heart of giving. God keeps setting us up to help one another and we keep holding our money with a closed fist. Some time ago a gun activist made a statement that went around the world… and this is what he said.
“They can have my gun when they pry it from my cold dead fingers.”
I bring that up because the Lord asked me a similar question in regards to my money. “How long will it take to get your… off your money.”
I was stunned. I was a giver. I started out slow after salvation at age thirty-six. I was a tither. I gave the tithe to the local church and kept expecting the blessing. I waited for men to give unto my bossom like the Bible says. I expected money to fall out of heaven… I expected God to take care of me. I expected Him to prosper me and give me raises on the job.
God did take care of me… but it was so squeaky tight all the time and I had been tithing for eight years. I got tired of it. I sat down with God one day and told Him how I felt.
Approaching Him slowly I said, “God. God, I’ve been tithing for seven years, (to be safe with my estimate), and I am not seeing any increase. It seems we are barely getting by all the time. I need to know what I am doing wrong… because I know it’s not your fault.”
Immediately, in my heart I heard, “Give me something to work with.”
I was shocked. I was caught off guard. I was stunned… and I answered, “Lord, I just got through telling you I’ve been tithing for seven years, maybe even eight.” I was now trying to justify myself.
“That’s mine. Give me something to work with.”
What a long wait for a short word. After eight years I finally ask the right question and God gives me eight words.
So Vicky and I decided to give, on purpose, twenty five dollars a week over and above the tithe. Then I was impressed to separate the tithe from the offering and make sure I gave the offering separately. Religion taught me to round up on the tithe… to the next dollar or the next five or ten dollars. But I was impressed to give only the tithe, 10%. I was impressed that the rest was my offering. If I didn’t care what my offering was… if it wasn’t important to me, why should it be important to God?
We got checks with duplicates and began to paste them in a book with empty pages so we could remind ourselves and show God from time to time what we were doing for the Kingdom. Then He began to show us some things… things about money and how to handle our finances. One thing God showed me about a loan we had was a different way to pay on the loan. Instead of paying four hundred dollars once a month on the loan, He impressed us to pay one hundred dollars a week every Friday on payday. And if you wait until Monday, you’re losing money. Many people may already know this… but are they doing it. We are now doing it. Nike!!!
Then God began to show me things in the stock market. I had no experience whatsoever in making investments. It is most assuredly a learning process. Then God began to show me vision. Get that… God is teaching me about money and showing me vision. God wants me to start five foundations. One will be for the spreading of the gospel. Many need to be sent and all that holds them back is money. Many are already in the remote places of the world but have to work countless hours to make a mere fifty dollars a month to support their starving families. Just think… as little as $50 could set a man free to preach. And they don’t have it. I wonder what $200 a month would do for a man who only needs $50.
The second foundation is for a building. The Lord began to show me a building that is bigger than a football stadium and God wants it built for His glory… to make all the other shrines around the world look like latrines by comparison… because He alone is God and there is no other. In the Dake’s Bible God showed me with scripture He brought up on the inside of me, a single building that Solomon had built, that by today’s standard would cost 174,000,000,000 dollars to build. That is one hundred seventy four billion.
This new building would be a building that God desires… a place of worship… for His glory. My pastor said that the greatest churches that have ever been built for the glory of God have not yet been built. When God shows me something as massive and awesomely luxurious as He has on the inside of me, I must believe Pastor Hallam is right. I agree with him.
The third foundation is for orphanages and widows needs. Orphans and widows must be helped. This is a direct command of God from the scripture. How would I get involved? I’m not sure yet… but there are already people in place like Ivan Tait who are doing the work and need all the money that people will give to expansion. I think most of the money would go to those who are already doing the work. And the widows… consider their needs. Many are bound by finances in their older age. Can you imagine seeing a need and just being able to meet the need? Maybe we could pay someone to take care of a woman’s yard for a year so she wouldn’t have to struggle to see how it is going to get done. I’ve seen older men in the grocery store with almost nothing in their baskets for lack of finances… and what they had was trashy stuff, not good food. Wouldn’t it be good to help someone?
The fourth foundation is for people who don’t even know God. God loves them and cares about them anyway. Sometimes people just need help. Sometimes they just need money. Money is an avenue to help people and demonstrate the love of God to them personally. Go out and make someone’s Christmas special who otherwise would have no Christmas at all… and see if they might be willing to listen to you about Jesus. Would it be possible that a single mom with children might need a helping hand? But not for just a day… think a little bit. Open up your mind and see if we can make a real difference in her life. Could we supply daycare for her children while she attends college for a semester? Could we pay for her college for a semester?
Do you think it would be possible to find a young man who has no chance at life except for what we are willing to give him? I’m not talking about giving away money. If we only give away money, then there is not enough money in the whole world to give. The United States of America welfare system proves that point. But if we could give away a future or a chance at life or an opportunity to someone who has no other way of having one, wouldn’t that be worth the money invested?
I’m not there yet. This has been a process of years to get my thinking lining up with the way God thinks. I once prayed for me. Now I am praying for them. Them who? Them who need a chance to hear the gospel. Them who need something to eat and some clothes to put on. Them who need their lawns mowed and their rent paid because they can’t make it on the Social Security checks they receive once a month. And them who don’t have a chance to get out of the ditch they are living in unless someone turns their eyes toward them. We don’t cast our pearls before swine, but we do cast our nets for a great catch.
Now, for the biggest kicker of them all. This is the place where God is constantly urging his church to attain… and also where we have fallen from. Gods system has always been set up to help one another… but the world system teaches people only to help themselves. There are at least three witnesses in the Bible where God tells us plainly what to do for our brothers and sisters in Christ. He desires for his body to move as a unit. We are altogether one body. You can’t walk without the foot. It’s all over the Bible, but here are a number of scriptures laying the same foundation.
The Bible says in the book of Joshua, Chapter 22:7-8 So when Joshua sent them away to their homes, he blessed them, and he said to them, “Return with much riches to your tents and with very much livestock, with silver, gold, bronze, iron, and very much clothing. Divide the spoil of your enemies with your brethren.” AMP
God desires to bless us so we can help (led by the Holy Spirit) other Christians out of the hole they are in. Just think about being wealthy enough to help anyone… no limit. That means that you could pay in full someone else’s child’s college. Someone offered to send my mother-in-law to college when she was school age and she didn’t know how to receive it. She didn’t know how she would ever pay it back… but that was never required. God found a faithful person to do His work but not someone who could or would receive the gift. My mother-in-law let that blessing pass her by. Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom.
Men will give into your bosom… men will give into your bosom… the Bible says, shall men give into your bosom. Are you turning down the avenue God chose to bless you… through men and women. I had a friend ask me, “If someone handed you the keys to a brand new Cadillac and said it was yours, what would you do.” I told them I would say “Thank you.” They told me that they would not be able to receive the gift. They just couldn’t do it. They said that they would not know how to receive such an extravagant gift. Try me. Pearl white with gold trim… just try me.
The fifth foundation is to help people rebuild in areas in times of disasters.
Witness number two is in 1 Samuel Chapter 30:15-25. David and his followers had been raided… their homes ransacked and burned and thier women and children taken hostage. I always thought it an awesome thing that God did not allow the enemy to kill any of the women and children. Isn’t that awesome? David sought God… and with instruction from God, he pursued his enemy. Some of David’s men were so exhausted from the traveling that David chose to set up a camp and leave them behind.
The enemy left something behind that they shouldn’t have… a sick slave. His master left him in the middle of nowhere to die. There is a message for you right there. If you think you are right in the middle of nowhere and you have no help but God… cry out to Him in faith, and see (with expectation) what He does. God sent a whole army to rescue this slave.
(Paraphrased by me) “My master left me out here to die. If you won’t kill me or force me to go back with my master… I’ll show you exactly where they are.” One minute this slave was a nobody; the next he was the scout for an entire army on the way to kill his master. Be very careful how you treat people.
So David and his men overthrew the enemy and got everything back… everything. When you win a war, you don’t just get back what you lost… you get back all of your stuff and everything that belonged to the enemy. They headed back home with all the silver and gold and food and livestock that they didn’t have before the war… and they came to the place where the exhausted men set up camp.
The Bible says that some of the wicked men who were with David made a decision that none of the men who camped and stayed behind should receive anything accept their women and children. They made this declaration and even said that those who stayed behind should leave, implying that they were not worthy to be part of the body (uh… I mean army). Remember, Paul said that even the least are extremely important to the body. In 1 Corinthians Chapter 12, Paul said the body can’t get along without them.
David got right in the middle of what was being said and declared and decreed a few things himself. “No, that is not the way it’s going to be.” (Paraphrased by me)
David replied, “No, my brothers, you must not do that with what the LORD has given us. He protected us and handed over to us the forces that came against us. Who will listen to what you say? The share of the man who stayed with the supplies is to be the same as that of him who went down to the battle. All will share alike.” David made this a statute and ordinance for Israel from that day to this. NIV
1 Samuel 30:23-25 Remember that these men who were called wicked men by the word of God were in their own camp. They were called wicked men because they were not willing to share or help their own people. In 2015 we are talking about Christians helping Christians. Not black or white or Hispanic… but Christians helping Christians.
David and his men took so much plunder… how much plunder was there? I couldn’t resist! David blessed thirteen cities… cities, with gifts and his men weren’t willing to share with their fellow soldiers. Do I expect you to share your money with other people? No, I don’t. Does God expect you to share your money with other people? A third witness is right around the corner.
Wait a minute. Let me throw a scripture in right here to chew on for a while. Ephesians 5:27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. KJV
And I want to encourage you with something that I believe the Lord shared with me on 9-04-2009 in my quiet time. I felt as though I was writing down what was being said.
“Shall I come for the church now? My word says I’m coming for a church without spot or wrinkle. That’s not yet. But there is an anointing coming to get you ready.
The gold is Mine… the silver is Mine…that’s not yet. But it most certainly will be. If you could just see what is over the horizon… it’s big, vast, huge…and it’s coming now. It will not wait. The world has never seen it this way… nor the church.
Plagued by the goodness of God. An amphibian… the best of both worlds, natural and spiritual, are coming over the horizon. The greatest light you’ve ever seen is coming over the horizon. It is like keen senses, a greater awareness of who you are and what you are doing. So much so, that you will have an awareness ahead of time of things to come and what they are… not so that you will be “smart,” but so you can lead and take people with you.”
The third witness is in the New Testament in the book of Acts 2:42-47 NIV They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles.
All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
The exact same principle is described in Acts 4:32-35 (Paraphrased) the believers were in unity, one in spirit, and they shared what they owned, so that no one had a need that was among them. When a need did arise, someone would go and sell a piece of property or a house and bring the money and lay it at the feet of the apostles so it could be distributed to meet every need. That’s a fourth witness.
If someone has ears to hear today… you can open up another whole new realm in your life. I spoke to a lady in a desperate time in her life and that one word changed her life. May your heart be willing to hear what was said?
During hurricane Rita, Vicky and I left the Texas coast and went to Arkansas to her parents home to stay until the storm passed by. We went by a shelter in El Dorado, Arkansas, to see if they might need any help and were able to minister to several people.
Vicky looked at one young lady with a baby in her arms and she just started crying. I heard her say that she had lost everything. She was obviously too young to be going through this kind of experience. Vicky held her and hugged her for the longest time and I kept walking so they could have their privacy.
I ran into another lady with one son of about seven years old. They were seated at a table after finishing lunch. I asked her where they were from. They were from New Orleans… she lost two businesses just a few weeks before in hurricane Katrina… but no loss of life, so they were fine. She had insurance to rebuild the restaurants so she was in better shape than many others in her area.
I began to talk to her about being rich… about making a lot of money off of those restaurants. She shared how she was making enough money to support herself and her son already… she didn’t need to make anything more for she was well taken care of. So I asked her if she was a Christian. Tears of joy welled up in her eyes and she replied, “Yes, I am… and God has been very good to me.” It was very obvious that she loved her God. Then I spoke something to her that totally changed her life.
“Lady, this isn’t about you if you are a Christian. It’s all about the gospel.”
She didn’t get it so I tried again.
“Lady, would you be willing to make more money than you need and give your overflow to that crazy Cajun Jesse Duplantis, and help him win souls to the same God that you love so much. He is winning souls around the world and time is short. Or you could help Benny Hinn … do you know him?”
It happened! It actually happened! Her whole countenance changed. I saw the revelation hit her. I was privileged to see it change her life. Her eyes lit up like a five year old girls eyes on Christmas morning… or like looking in a candy store window. It was over. The devil had lost another Christian who got revelation knowledge of what overflow is capable of doing for Jesus and His kingdom.
I believe that the Holy Spirit prompts (unction’s) people to give to one another in the body of Christ. There was never supposed to be an unfilled need in the body of Christ… because it is one body. The body either makes it or it doesn’t. And it will make it… for God is able to make it stand. But, I cannot express strongly enough that God will do it through us, His people. Those two New Testament examples were put two chapters apart so we could easily see a pattern. God is not interested in leaving anyone behind… and He won’t leave anyone behind. You will never get to the finish line and gain rewards by yourself.
Are you supposed to give all of your money away? No. You have to have money to make money. But when you have more than you need… why don’t you ask God who you can help. Somebody needs a car. They’ve been struggling for years to get out from under the car they have.
Can’t you help someone get out of debt? The Bible says in Galatians 5:10 that we should do good to people, and especially to those who believe. I have always loved this scripture and it makes so much sense. This word is not a mistake in the Bible. God really meant that we should, not just help someone every now and then, but be continually helping one another by design. God wants us to keep helping until we get everyone across that finish line.
Of course this takes discernment and help from the Holy Spirit. Spend time with God and His Spirit will show you the way. I remember years ago when I was sitting on the back pew of a church praying and Ronnie Smith came up behind me while I was praying. I was healing from two broken legs, a broken hip and a crushed foot and he asked me if I needed any help financially. I told him, “My God shall supply all of my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Isn’t that such a pat Christian answer?
Ronnie answered, “Well… I know that… but sometimes God uses people to do that.” Simple… yet profound.
I let him know that I appreciated him offering… but that we were doing alright at the time. After he left I began praying again.
“Lord, I never thought about that before. Help us to get in a position financially that we can help other people in their need.”
