DOCTRINE THAT LEADS TO GODLINESS…

“If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness,” 1 Tim 6:3

Paul identifies 3 characteristics of false teachers…

One…they advocate a different doctrine. A different teaching that contradicts the revelation of the grace of God that was taught by Apostle Paul.. Gal 1:6-9

Two.. They do not agree with ”sound” words..In other words, they do not accept sound doctrine and so deny the truth of the grace of God..

Three.. They reject doctrine that conforms to godliness, which results in an unholy life…

False teachers will be marked by their “works” and their pompous attitude, and so, lack a humble spirit…

They have a ”form” of godliness but deny the power thereof…(Jesus)

Paul refers to false teachers in 1 Tim 6:3-4 and contrasts their divisive teaching with the wholesome teaching of Christ.( sound doctrine)..

These false teachers were more interested in theory and debate than putting the truth into practice…

The “whole” Gospel is the mystery of godliness and it has a tendency to promote true godliness in the heart and life..

Even though it is not of works, but of grace, holiness of heart is an evidence of the inward working of the Spirit…

The covenant of grace, which is absolute and unconditional, provides for both internal and external holiness..

And the promises of it, under the influence of grace, renews the mind of the believer from the values of the world to the mind of Christ..

Spiritual transformation starts in the mind and the heart..

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” Rom 12:2

A mind that is dedicated to the world will produce a life that is tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine..

But a mind that is dedicated to the truths of Christ will produce a life that will stand the test of time..a firm foundation..

“For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” 1 Cor 3:11

Free justification by the righteousness of Christ and redemption by the blood of Christ from sin, satan and the law and the effectual calling of the saints and their final perseverance in grace and holiness….

ALL of these are doctrines according to godliness…

Therefore, whoever does not teach these truths, and submit to them, but instead opposes them, and teaches contrary to them, he is a FALSE teacher…

“This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith,” Titus 1:13

“Retain the standard of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.” 2 Tim 1:13
